Modern Window Valance

You can add more life and color to a dull looking window by using window valances. As a modern window accessory, a window valance can replace the old-fashioned hanging drapes, which is still being used by some homeowners until today. Window valances have ornamental functions since they serve a decorative purpose. You can hang them on window tops while it serves as a covering for curtain rods. In addition to that, it also add more layers to a drape, indoor shutter, and blinds. However, you need to use a double curtain rod when you use it so that you can easily open the curtains and at the same time, you do not destroy the valances.

Aside from kitchens and bathrooms, window valances are also used to decorate living rooms and other areas of the house where there is a need for improvement. Either it is for a casual or formal decoration, window valances can easily address your needs for window treatments. You can also install these window curtain valances when you want to decorate palladium and bay windows which are known to be very difficult to decorate. The valances will help you emphasize the window features.

Generally, palladium windows extends from the main frame of the window until the arch. That is why it is quite hard to put up some dressing using a window valance. But you can always use rods separately for each section of the window. Rods are either too long or too short as a support for the double curtain rods which also holds the valances and the drapes. You attach a bracket at the center but it would look very ugly. To avoid this problem, just use rod pocket valances. You can install it on each drape and valance.

For bay window valances, you can also do the same thing. The only difference here is that you do not need to prepare a dressing for the whole area of the window with just one curtain. That is because the wall’s curvature does not accommodate this type of dressing. As a result, you need to prepare and install one dressing for every section of the window. A typical bay window has three individual sections for every wall. In case there is more than window in every wall section, just use one rod to decorate both windows. You may also need to use some drapery rings and medallions in this case. Use the outer part of the window to mount the brackets.

There are several styles to choose from when you want to install window valances. If you want to personalize it further, just create a new one for yourself. In case you want to start right away, the first thing that you need to do is to measure the width of your windows using the curtain rod. You can choose for yourself how long your valances would be like. Many people usually use about one-third of the whole window down. In case you want include pleats and swags, just prepare enough fabric which should be four times more than the actual measurement. All the extra fabric should be accounted for in case you need to use them for a pre-made window valance pattern.
